The situation
This was a large family home, and most of what had to go lived outside it or next to it: several patio sets, an outdoor dining set, a sunroom full of woven furniture, bedroom furniture, a patio heater, a deck box and a Springfree trampoline in the back yard. The owner was downsizing and kept finding more pieces as the job went on, which is normal; a house gives up its contents a room at a time. Partway through, she moved her move-out date in. Everything had to be gone by her date, not ours.
What we did
We photographed and listed the high-ticket pieces first, on our own shop and on Facebook Marketplace, and sold others for cash at the house to buyers who came to collect. Each new piece she added went into the same queue rather than waiting for a second round. When the date moved, so did the pricing and the pickup schedule, so buyers were collecting while there was still time. The trampoline was its own problem. The manufacturer and a local company both quoted to take it down, and neither price made sense for what the trampoline was worth. Charles took it apart himself, following the manual's order, in about an hour, and saved her hundreds. The last few pieces that had not sold by the end, we bought out ourselves, so she had nothing left to deal with.
The outcome
The house was cleared on her date. The big outdoor sets sold, the bedroom furniture sold, the heater and the deck box went to local buyers who collected from the house, and the trampoline came down in time without either of the quoted take-down jobs. She kept 85% of every sale and did not have to arrange a single pickup, a take-down crew or a haul-away. We now offer the same Springfree take-down to anyone in the Charlotte area.

We never publish a client's name or address. The photographs are our own catalog shots of the pieces themselves, taken while we inventoried. Every figure below is a real completed sale from our own ledger, linked to the item it belongs to.
I settled my own parents' estates in 2021 and did it badly — most of it ended up in a storage unit I paid for over the next several years. That's why we work this way. — Charles · Read the whole story →
