Downsizing from a family home is rarely a project that fits a calendar. Some weeks the homeowner is energetic and ready to make decisions. Other weeks they need to sit and look. VaultXL works at whatever pace serves the homeowner — fast when the move-in date demands it, slow when the family needs time to process.
We start with a free in-home walkthrough. The homeowner tells us about the new place — square footage, layout, what's already there, what needs to come. We measure key pieces against the new floorplan. We listen to what matters and what doesn't. Then we send a written plan within two business days.
From there, the work happens in stages. Items the homeowner wants to keep get measured, packed, and moved. Items they're done with get photographed, priced, and sold across the channels best for them. Donations go to 501(c)(3) partners with FMV receipts. Family heirlooms intended for adult children get coordinated, packed, and shipped to wherever they live.
The financial outcome usually surprises Charlotte seniors. Many recover enough in resale to substantially offset the cost of the move and the cleanout combined. Designer goods, furniture, oriental rugs, sterling silver, and quality household items frequently sell for more than the homeowner expected.

Why VaultXL.
Homeowner pace
Some clients move in 30 days. Others take six months. Both are fine. We adjust the schedule, never the homeowner.
One family liaison
The same person from the first walkthrough to the last move. Not a rotating cast of contractors.
Adult-child coordination
Many of our downsizing engagements are arranged by adult children who don't live in Charlotte. We provide photo updates, status calls, and a single point of contact who keeps every sibling looped in.
Items that recover real value
Designer goods, furniture, sterling silver, oriental rugs, jewelry, fine art — these often surprise downsizing clients with what they recover. We route each to the channel that pays the most.
No-pressure environment
We're not selling a service in your living room. The first walkthrough has no pricing conversation. Decisions happen later, in writing, after you've had time to look at the plan.

Frequently asked.
It starts with a free in-home walkthrough — usually two hours. We measure key pieces against the new floorplan, listen to what matters, and send a written plan within 48 hours. From there the work happens at the homeowner's pace: sorting, sale of unwanted items, donation, packing, and the move itself.
Every engagement is custom-quoted. Many Charlotte downsizing projects substantially offset their cost through resale of items the homeowner is parting with. Designer goods, furniture, sterling silver, and quality household items frequently recover real value. Our flat 15% commission on items sold means the homeowner keeps 85% of every sale.
Yes. We work directly with movers — your existing one or one we recommend. Many Charlotte downsizing engagements include the move itself; others have the family using a preferred mover with VaultXL handling everything before and after.
VaultXL operates a climate-controlled managed storage facility. Items can be photographed, cataloged, and held with portal access for as long as the homeowner needs to decide. No pressure to sell or dispose.
Yes. We pack, photograph, ship via insured carrier, and confirm receipt. Many of our downsizing engagements involve coordinating heirlooms to children in different states or countries.
Typical engagements run 4-12 weeks at a comfortable pace, faster if a move-in date requires it. The homeowner sets the timeline; we work backward from it.
We work with families moving into Sharon Towers, Aldersgate, Carmel Place, Aldersgate, The Cypress, Plantation Estates, Brightmore of South Charlotte, Saint Paul's House, and most other Charlotte-area senior living, retirement, and continuing-care communities.
