Sell Before Moving · Anywhere in the United States

Movers charge by the pound. Sell the pounds you don't want.

Six weeks, a job in another city, and a moving quote based on weight. Most of what people pay to move, they did not want to move: the sofa that will not fit, the second dining set, the guest-room furniture, the garage. Selling it where it stands turns that cost into cash twice: you are paid for the piece, and you stop paying to carry it. VaultXL does the sorting, research, pricing, listings, buyer messages and markdown timing from photographs, sequenced to your move date. Someone local hands over what sells.

Private upload, no account required. Your photos are reviewed by VaultXL and are never published or listed for sale. Nothing is listed until you approve a written plan.

The relocation problem is a clock, not a mystery. Everything that is not going on the truck has a last day in the house, and the question for each piece is whether a buyer can be found before that day at a price worth the effort. That is a sequencing job: list the best pieces first so they have the longest run; put the kitchen and the shelves into lots; set markdown dates in advance; and decide now which pieces, if unsold by the cut-off, go to donation with a receipt rather than onto the truck.

Send photos of what is not going with you. The sort comes back: pieces worth listing on their own, what goes as lots, what a specialist should see first, what is donation, and a schedule against your date. From there you choose: the plan and the listing drafts to do it yourself; VaultXL managing the selling remotely, offered after we review the project, while you or a neighbor handle pickups; or hands-on service where our coverage exists, in the Charlotte, North Carolina area, where we also stand in the hallway on pickup day.

Everything is quoted in writing before any work starts. If VaultXL sells for you, the model is a setup fee set in your written quote, then 15% of what sells after marketplace fees; you keep 85%. Nothing is listed until you agree to the plan.

Sequenced to the move date.

  1. Split the house in two

What goes on the truck is yours to decide. Photograph everything else: one wide photo per room, a second angle for large rooms, close-ups of labels and damage.

  2. Get the sort and the schedule

Sell on its own, lot together, specialist first, donate. Each with a date: list by, mark down on, donate after.

  3. List the best pieces first

The dining suite and the good bedroom set go up in week one; they need the longest run. Lots and small pieces follow.

  4. Hand over as it sells

Buyers collect from the house during pickup windows you agree to. Smaller pieces ship with labels we prepare. You see what sold as it sells.

  5. Stop selling on time

On the cut-off date, whatever has not sold goes to donation with a receipt. Moving day is for the truck, not the dumpster.

What is worth selling before a move.

Anything heavy you do not love: sofas, dining sets, bedroom sets, desks, bookcases, exercise equipment, the second refrigerator. Anything that will not fit the new place, which the new floor plan will tell you. Anything you were going to replace on arrival anyway. The arithmetic is simple: a piece that costs more to move than it would bring is a piece to sell or donate here, even at a modest price.

Anything on the specialist watchlist travels with you or waits for a specialist, never a rushed sale: jewelry, watches, coins, firearms, signed art, sterling, labeled designer furniture, instruments, vehicles.

If you're already gone.

The selling can finish after you have left, as long as someone can open the door: a neighbor, the Realtor listing the house, a property manager, a friend. They let buyers in during agreed windows and drop small sold pieces at a carrier. They never price, negotiate or answer buyers; that is ours. See who the local contact is and what they do.

Why VaultXL.

The date is the plan

Every piece gets a list-by date, a markdown date and a donate-after date before the first listing goes up.

Sell in place

Buyers carry their own furniture out to their own vehicle. Nothing is hauled to a warehouse first.

Flagged, not guessed

Specialist categories travel with you or wait for a specialist; they are never sold in a hurry.

Frequently asked.

Enough to photograph, sort, list the best pieces and sell a good share of them; not enough to sell everything at full asking. The plan sets a donation cut-off so what has not sold by your date goes to a good home with a receipt instead of onto the truck. If someone can open the door after you leave, the selling can continue.

Yes. We write and post the listings, answer every message, screen out the time-wasters and set the pickup windows. You, or your local contact, open the door during those windows.

VaultXL reviews the photos within one business day; we contact you the way you asked; you receive the recommended path and schedule; if you want more help, you receive a written plan and quote; nothing proceeds without your approval.

The plan names the date. On it, unsold pieces go to donation with a receipt, or to clearance if nobody will take them. Nothing is left for moving morning.

No. It is practical resale guidance built from current asking prices for comparable pieces, with specialist items listed but not valued. It is not a formal appraisal.

It is quoted in writing before any work starts, by the size of the project and the help you choose. If VaultXL sells for you, the model is a setup fee set in your written quote and 15% of what sells after marketplace fees; you keep 85%. We don't publish a rate card because no two moves are the same job.

In the Charlotte, North Carolina area and on scheduled trips to nearby metros, yes, including standing in the hallway on pickup day. Everywhere else, the thinking is remote and the hands are yours or your local contact's.

What clients say

Real clients, real sales

Selling a house full of belongings on a deadline comes down to trust and follow-through. Here is what two clients wrote about having us handle the selling for them.

“My wife and I simply do not have the time, knowledge, or expertise needed to photograph, list, market, and manage the sale of so many different items. Charles has handled that process for us and provided valuable guidance along the way. Their hands-on approach and personalized service have made what could have been an overwhelming process much more manageable.”
John & Susan · Google review
“What particularly impressed me was his sophisticated approach to consignment. He uses industry-leading tools and market data to determine appropriate pricing and product placement rather than simply guessing at what an item might bring. My two most expensive items were sold quickly, professionally, and securely. Consigning valuable belongings can require a significant amount of trust, and Charles earned mine very quickly.”

“I cannot thank Charles at Vault XL enough for his exceptional assistance with my late grandfather’s estate. Navigating a loved one's personal belongings after they pass is emotionally taxing, but Charles made the entire process smooth, respectful, and stress-free. He took the time to come out, evaluate the personal estate thoroughly, and provide a fair, honest, and transparent pricing assessment. His professionalism, compassion, and deep knowledge gave our family complete peace of mind during a difficult time. I highly recommend Charles and the Vault XL team to anyone in need of trustworthy estate evaluation services.”
