Every dresser, bookcase and box of books that goes to Florida is paid for by the pound for the entire trip. Much of the furniture that suited a long-time North Carolina house won't suit a smaller, brighter Florida home. Selling it before the truck is loaded pays twice: you keep the proceeds, and you don't pay to ship it five hundred miles.
We start with a free walkthrough in your home. If you have the Florida floor plan, we measure what you want to keep against it. Within two business days you get a written plan: what moves, what goes to family, what sells, what's donated, what goes to the landfill or recycling center, and on which dates, worked back from your closing and your delivery window.
Then we do the work. Everything that's selling is photographed where it stands, priced against real completed sales, and listed where it will sell for the most: an on-site estate sale, our own storefront, or national marketplaces. Pieces that belong together are sold together. You keep 85% of every sale, after marketplace fees. Donations go out with itemised receipts, the rest goes on disposal runs, and the house is left broom-clean for the buyer.
The move itself is the one part we don't do. You book a licensed interstate mover yourself, and we take no fee from any mover. Our job is to have the house ready for them: every room packed and labelled, every box on an inventory, and everything that isn't going already sold, donated or gone. At the Florida end, once the mover has delivered, we unpack, place the furniture to the floor plan, and take the packing materials away.

There are two separate bills. The mover's, which you arrange directly, is set by weight and distance. Get it in writing: a binding estimate is a fixed price, a not-to-exceed estimate is a ceiling, and on a non-binding estimate the mover cannot demand more than 110% of it at delivery. Ours is quoted individually after a free walkthrough, and nothing starts until you have it in writing. The quote sets a non-refundable setup fee and prices the services you choose, from the full package to packing alone. What sells carries a 15% commission on the net sale price, after sales tax and marketplace fees, so you keep 85%.
No. Carrying household goods across state lines for hire requires federal registration with the FMCSA: a USDOT number and household-goods operating authority. We don't hold it, so the move itself is the one part we leave to you. You book a licensed interstate mover directly, and before you sign you can look up their USDOT number on the FMCSA's protectyourmove.gov. We take no fee from movers. Everything else is ours: the sale, the donations, packing before the mover arrives, and unpacking in Florida after they deliver.
For a whole house, eight to twelve weeks before closing if you can. Good furniture needs weeks on the market to sell at a proper price; squeezed into the last fortnight, it sells at clearance prices or not at all. Two Florida dates are worth planning around. The homestead exemption requires you to own the home and live in it as your permanent residence on January 1, and the application is due to the county property appraiser by March 1. And Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30.
Take what you use, what you love, and what fits the new floor plan. Sell what you would pay to ship and then replace: formal dining sets, heavy case pieces, extra bedroom furniture, and often the dark wood that suited the old house and not the new one. We measure against the Florida plan before anything is decided, and family pieces, photographs and papers come out of the sale before anything is priced.
A short list, with real deadlines. In Florida: a Florida driver license within 30 days of becoming a resident, and Florida insurance, title and registration for your car within 10 days, according to the FLHSMV. The homestead exemption application goes to the county property appraiser by March 1, and an optional Declaration of Domicile can be filed with the county clerk. In North Carolina: turn your plates in to NCDMV before you cancel your NC car insurance, and expect to file a part-year NC return for the year you leave. We are not tax advisers, so confirm the details with your accountant, attorney or the agencies themselves.
