BigCommerce has a solid built-in product importer, but its template has quirks: an Item Type column that marks each row as a product or a SKU, a category path syntax it validates strictly, and a Track Inventory / stock-level pairing that has to line up. We map the catalog to BigCommerce's template so the import runs clean.

The Item Type column drives every row

BigCommerce's importer reads an Item Type on each row (Product vs SKU) to decide how to treat it. Leave it wrong and variants or products get mangled. We set the row type correctly.

Category paths are validated strictly

BigCommerce expects category paths in its own format and validates them on import. A malformed path drops products into no category. We format the Category column to its spec.

Brand is its own catalog entity

BigCommerce treats Brand as a first-class field tied to brand pages and filtering, not a free tag. We populate Brand Name per item so those pages and filters work.

Stock level pairs with inventory tracking

Current Stock Level only behaves if it's paired with the right inventory-tracking setting. We set a sane stock value per item so the import doesn't leave everything out of stock.
