Dealers who offer to buy a collection outright are not doing anything wrong; they are pricing in the risk and effort of sorting it themselves, and taking the upside for doing so. That upside is often the majority of the collection's value. If you have the time to sell properly, it belongs to you instead.
The work is identification and grading. In a record collection, pressing and matrix number decide the price. In coins, date, mint mark and grade. In comics, issue, printing and condition. Two objects that look identical to a non-specialist can differ by a factor of fifty, and the whole job is knowing which is which before anything is listed.
We sort, identify and research the collection piece by piece, flag the items that justify professional grading before sale, and list the valuable pieces individually where specialist buyers actually look. The long tail — the ninety percent that is genuinely common — gets bundled into sensible lots rather than eating months of listing time for a few dollars each.
Inherited collections get particular care. The person who assembled it usually knew exactly what was special, and that knowledge is often the thing lost in the estate. We reconstruct it from the objects themselves, and tell you honestly when a collection is sentimental rather than valuable.

Why VaultXL.
The value hides in a few pieces
In most collections a small fraction carries the majority of the value. Finding those before anything sells is the entire job, and it is what a bulk buyer is really paying you to skip.
Grading gets recommended, not assumed
Professional grading costs money and only pays on items above a certain value. We tell you which pieces clear that bar and which do not.
The long tail gets lotted, not ignored
Common items are bundled into lots that actually sell, rather than listed individually at prices that never justify the effort.
We will say when it is not valuable
Plenty of collections are meaningful and not worth much. Hearing that early is better than paying to find it out slowly.

Frequently asked.
A dealer offer is fast and certain, and it is priced so the dealer keeps the upside from sorting. Selling piece by piece almost always recovers more — often substantially more — but it takes weeks or months. If speed matters most, take the dealer offer; if value matters most, do not.
Coins and currency, vinyl records, comics, stamps, trading cards, militaria, die-cast and model vehicles, sports memorabilia, and general antiques and curios. For highly specialised material we bring in or refer to a specialist rather than guessing.
Only above a certain value. Grading costs money per item plus insured shipping both ways, so it pays on genuinely high-value pieces and destroys margin on ordinary ones. We flag which items clear that threshold before anything is sent.
Do not sort or discard anything first — original order and packaging sometimes matter, and the discard pile is where valuable pieces get lost. Start with a walkthrough and let the identification happen before any decisions.
A flat 15% commission on items that sell, so you keep 85%. There is no fee for the initial assessment and nothing is owed on anything that does not sell.
