Most new homes in the Charlotte area's 55+ communities are single-level, and many plans run between about 1,400 and 2,500 square feet. An apartment in a life plan community can be well under 1,000. Coming from a two-storey family home with a basement or a full attic, the arithmetic is simple and hard: most of what's in the house won't come.
So we start with the floor plan, not the boxes. At a free walkthrough we measure the furniture you want to keep against the new plan and mark where each piece goes. Within two business days you have a written plan: what moves, what goes to family, what sells, what's donated, what goes to the landfill or recycling center, and on which dates, worked back from your builder's closing or your community's move-in date.
Once you have signed off the plan, the work starts. What's selling is priced against real completed sales and photographed where it stands. Depending on the house, that means an on-site estate sale, our own storefront, national marketplaces, or all three. You keep 85% of every sale, after marketplace fees. Donations go out with itemised receipts, what's left goes on disposal runs, and the house is left broom-clean and ready to list.
The move itself is the one part we don't do. You book the mover, and we take no fee from any mover. Before they arrive, every room is packed and labelled and every box is on an inventory. Once they have delivered, we unpack, place the furniture where the plan says, and take the packing materials away.

No. Moving household goods for pay needs a certificate from the NC Utilities Commission for a move inside North Carolina, and federal FMCSA authority for one across state lines. We hold neither, so you book a licensed mover yourself, and we take no fee from movers. Everything around the move is ours: the floor plan, the sale, donations, disposal runs, packing before the mover arrives, and unpacking once they have delivered.
Yes. Sun City Carolina Lakes in Indian Land and Four Seasons at Gold Hill in Fort Mill are across the state line in South Carolina, so the move crosses state lines even though it's a short drive. The mover you book should be registered for interstate household-goods moves; check their USDOT number on the FMCSA's protectyourmove.gov before you sign.
A 55+ or active-adult community is housing for older adults; under the federal Housing for Older Persons Act, a community that uses the 55+ exemption must have a resident aged 55 or over in at least 80% of its occupied homes. A life plan community, also called a CCRC, adds a range of care on one campus, from independent living to assisted living and nursing care. For the move, the difference is mostly space: a 55+ home is usually a single-level house, and a life plan apartment is usually much smaller. We plan either.
It's common, and the floor plan helps. Anything a family member claims is tagged, photographed and set aside. Anything still undecided can go into our managed storage while the family works it out, so the move date doesn't have to wait. Nothing is sold without the owner's sign-off.
